![]() About 2 hours imaging total, and processed using PixInsight for a color image of globular cluster M56. The following image was taken with 32-inch scope, with ZWO ASI 6200 camera, RGB and Lum Filters. A dark region sits just off the western edge. It has an uneven texture with some N-S elongation. Some unevenness of texture with little or no center brightness or concentration.ĭecember 16th 1998 with a 102mm refractor Irregular shape, no resolution of stars, but some faint stars visible surrounding the cluster. Fairly bright, small, mostly round and appearing as an unresolvable patch. October 5th 1997, using a 3.5-inch Maksutov-Cassegrain at 146x. The cluster has a subtle N-S elongation, with a couple prominent star chains leading off toward the north. Many faint outliers sparkling with averted vision. In my 10-inch 160x, I see M56 as fairly large, bright and with a mostly even concentration of stars, with good resolution. M56 is not nearly as large and as well-concentrated as some other globulars such as M2, M3, M13 and M14 and among a few others. Roger Ivester: Observer from North Carolina The facility has been featured in Astronomy Magazine ( February 2016, Pages 54-57) and the Las Vegas Review Journal and other publications, and media. I was fortunate to be able to play a role in the Mount Potosi Observing Complex in Southern Nevada, facilitating a $50,000 telescope donation by Dr. As of November 2019, Sue has agreed to help compile and edit the challenge report. Sue wrote the very popular monthly “Deep-Sky Wonders” column for twenty years. In October 2018, Sue French, “Contributing Editor” for “Sky & Telescope Magazine” became the Observer’s Challenge special advisor, after many years as a participant. All of the reports to-date are included in the following link. The challenge report will celebrate its 15th year in 2023. The Observer’s Challenge is an international deep-sky observing report, which allows any serious amateur the opportunity to share notes, sketches and images for a preselected deep-sky object on a monthly basis. I am the co-founder of the Observer’s Challenge report, along with Fred Rayworth of Las Vegas. I began making pencil sketches, which really helped me to become a far better visual observer. And fortunately by this time, I was also living in a much darker area. In 1992 I became a much more serious observer, with a new 10-inch EQ Meade reflector. It was Brad that wanted to join the astronomy club. This got me back into astronomy after a five year hiatus. In 1985 a local astronomy club was formed and I became a member with my youngest son, Brad. I’d moved to an area packed with houses and street lights, but I made the best of the situation and continued to observe. However, b y this time the fabulous skies of my early years were gone. This was not my first choice, as I really wanted the 6-inch Super Space Conquerer, but the 4 1/4-inch was the best my budget would allow at that time. It wasn’t until the mid-70’s that I acquired my very own telescope, a 4 1/4-inch Edmund Newtonian EQ reflector. The sky was velvety black with the Milky Way extending almost to the southern horizon. ![]() It was a fabulous place for a budding new amateur astronomer, completely devoid of light pollution. I grew up in the foothills of North Carolina, in a very rural area. One of my older brothers had purchased a 60mm EQ refractor. I became interested in astronomy in the mid-60’s at the age of twelve. I’m hopeful that you’ll find it both interesting and possibly beneficial in your future observations. ![]() I am particularly interested in elucidating the connection between language use and culture. I will say this chop suey has the best pepper steak I have had here that's probably why they are still in business because with the attitudes the doors would have been closed. I just called the restaurant on my side of town and ordered vegetable fried rice which was delicious. I didn't even bother going back in there I don't have time to argue about what I said or what he said. Well got my order in a timely fashion get out to the car and check my order and take a few bites I have white rice. Right across the highway from Hometown Supermarket is Chop Suey Inn at 813 Green Springs. Well anyone that has been here more than once knows the guy at the register he was kind of rude and cut me off telling me shrimp doesn't come with it and it would be another 10 dollars for shrimp fried rice. Ok so I ordered pepper steak but I asked if I could have shrimp fried rice as a substitute the only reason I asked is because you can do this for an upcharge at another Chinese restaurant that I frequent. I didn't call it in so I knew I would have to wait. The negatives could be easy fixes. This visit where do I start? I don't get here often but I was in the area I decided to stop by. Really good food, just bad service sometimes and roaches. Especially when you visit multiple times and see a roach every time. My experience is that if there's one roach there are more in other areas. I stopped going when I saw a roach two times in a row. Guy at the front would argue and yell at other staff members on top of the store not being the cleanest. The service is questionable especially when they would be busy. Great food, the best Egg Rolls I've had anywhere. My experience here over the past year is that their food is good. ![]() Took like 2 bites and just trashed the whole meal. It had a bland taste and had this weird powdery texture to it to it. Only complaint was that the shrimp inside was not deveined. Ordered the Mongolian Beef with one egg roll. Pulled it apart and now instead of shrimp the standard egg rolls come with some type of very bland chicken inside.įinal Take: Score is overall better because the food was at least edible this time but the egg rolls have gone down and one of the most popular items, the Mongolian beef lacked flavor and spice. This place was known for having the best egg rolls in arguably the state. ![]() Right amount of Mongolian sauce just needs more flavor.īiggest Con: Now the most disappointing thing to me is the egg roll. When this restaurant was at it's peak, I would order this dish and it was be perfectly spicy and it was not something I needed to request. I think you can request it to be more spicy. I know a lot of Chinese restaurants lessen spice to cater to America taste but that was disappointing. The dish was listed as a spicy dish but it had no spice at all. While the beef was cooked perfectly, there was little to no flavor and spice. I think there's a technique they use to make it really soft, I personally don't care for the texture when it's really soft like that but I understand some people do.Ĭons: Even if you call ahead you may wait a while. Karen marries Bror to retain her title of baroness and moves to Africa. Many of her performances, especially the ones where she uses accents, are slightly difficult to accept first but shine later, even though she does sound like Sly Stallone at times, especially when she says in one scene "I want you to COME HOME". The opening itself talks of the farm at the foot of the Ngong Hills and is voiced by Streep in a very distinctive accent. Based on a true story, Out of Africa shows Karen Blixen's life as she adjusts to the African lifestyle while romancing Denys (Redford) and divorcing Bror (Klaus). The Iron Lady will always remain Meryl's Iron Lady. While Meryl is a marvel, Pollock himself is a wise man who gave the picture an independent existence. The camera moves through the picturesque Africa and the beautiful Meryl so naturally as if the cameraman was lost in the beauty of the entire place. ![]() While in Out of Africa, Pollock never resorts to showy camera work to highlight Meryl. While I do understand Phyllida's attempt to have Meryl foreshadow others to show Thatcher's dominance, the movie itself became a one-woman show that barely gave a s*** about the supporting cast. In Out of Africa, Meryl's character Karen is a hardworking, independent, strong-willed young baroness/plantation worker later author, while in The Iron Lady, she oscillates between an eighty year old dementia-suffering Thatcher and a middle-aged Thatcher, both authoritative. While in both of them, Meryl gave her best shot, the director's approach towards the actress is very different.
